Groundbreaking Surgical Techniques for Facial Rejuvenation

Facelift surgery has been performed since the start of the 20th century, with the first facelift being performed in 1916. In the early days, prior to the 1980s, a facelift typically just involved removing excess skin and then tightening the remaining skin — which had a drawback. It created a tight, unnatural look.

Recent developments in facial plastic surgery have dramatically changed how a facelift is performed, with groundbreaking techniques that lift and correct the stretched underlying tissues. Re-suspending the tissues and natural fat to the youthful position achieves results that last longer and appear remarkably natural. Dr. Bharat Shah is a leading, double board-certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, and ear, nose, and throat specialist known for the elegant beauty he achieves with custom facelift surgery.

Is it Time to Consider a Facelift?

If you believe you would feel more confident if your face looked younger, you’re not alone. Once a person reaches their 40s, the signs of aging are simply inevitable. As the years progress, every wrinkle and crease deepens, jowls develop, and cheeks lose their youthful lift and begin to drift downward. A custom facelift performed by Dr. Shah is the ultimate anti-aging treatment, with results that leave you looking a decade or more younger.

If you have any of the following aesthetic issues, a facelift may be right for you:

  • Deep smile lines and wrinkles
  • Saggy jowls and lessened jawline definition
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Sunken appearance under the eyes

Facelift Timeline

A facelift is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 3 to 4 hours to complete (or longer when combined with other treatments or procedures). Incisions are placed in the hairline and around the ears and heal very nicely.

Once the incisions are placed, the corrections are performed to lift and re-suspend the underlying structure, remove excess skin, and to re-position fat. The incisions are then closed. When you awaken after surgery, your face will be protected with bandages

Plan on arranging for another person to assist you at home for the first few days. Some swelling and bruising is normal and will fade in 1 to 2 weeks, after which you are free to resume your usual activities (but must avoid vigorous physical activities for at least two weeks). Any discomfort can be managed with pain medication, but the healing process is reasonably easy to experience. Over-the-counter painkillers are usually all you will need after the first few days. If you plan on attending an important event and want to look your best, schedule your facelift 2 to 3 months beforehand.

What are the potential risks and complications of a facelift?

What is the age range for getting a facelift?

There's no specific age range for getting a facelift as individual aging varies. Some people may consider a facelift in their 40s, while others may wait until their 50s or beyond. The decision is often based on the individual's concerns and consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon.

Is a facelift a permanent solution?

A facelift can provide long-lasting results, but it does not stop the aging process. Over time, the effects of aging will continue to affect the face. However, a facelift can significantly turn back the clock and delay the appearance of aging signs for years.

Are there non-surgical alternatives to facelifts?

Yes, there are non-surgical alternatives such as dermal fillers, Botox injections, and thread lifts that can provide some degree of facial rejuvenation without the need for surgery. These options are typically less invasive and have shorter recovery times.

What are the potential risks and complications of a facelift?

Like any surgical procedure, facelifts carry risks such as infection, bleeding, scarring, and unfavorable aesthetic outcomes. It's important to choose a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon to minimize these risks.
